Lois Baer

2012 Friends of CASCWA Award Recipients

Lois Baer has been a Deputy District Attorney in Santa Clara County for nearly 23 years. Ms. Baer established the first Truancy Program in Santa Clara County. In 1997, Ms. Baer was appointed head of the Santa Clara County Truancy Abatement Collaborative, remaining in that position for sixteen years. While Ms. Baer currently is working in the adult division of her office, she continues to serve as the California District Attorneys Association’s (“CDAA”) representative on the California State School Attendance Review Board.

Ms. Tammy Tillmon, pictured on the left, represented SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union. SchoolsFirst of Orange County has generously supported the annual “State SARB Awards Program” from the inception of the awards. Without their support, this “State-wide” recognition program would not be possible.

David Kopperud, pictured in the middle, wears many hats as an “Education Program Consultant” for the California State Department of Education. Mr. Kopperud presented certificates from the State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson to each of the “Model SARB” recipients.

Mr. Kopperud is the Chairperson of the State School Attendance Review Board (State SARB.) As with many other educators involved in “Student Support Services”, David has a long list of professional responsibilities. David has distinguished himself as a true champion in combating truancy and improving student attendance throughout the state. Whether you need information on attendance technology, any of the segments that make up the “State SARB Rubrics” or just need to have one of those “what if question” answered, David is always available to help you. Mr. Kopperud is a true gentleman, an educational leader and an “Ambassador” for the California State Department of Education.

Julie Weng-Gutierrez, pictured on the right, is a Senior Assistant Attorney General for the California Department of Justice, HEW Section. Ms. Julie Weng-Gutierrez represented California Attorney General, Kamala D. Harris , and presented certificates from the Attorney General’s Office to each of the 2012 Model SARB Award Recipients.

Lee Lundberg Award

Lee Lundberg was state president 1977- 1978 but had a long spanning career with CASCWA. His foresight and leadership in working with the California Legislature and keeping CASCWA in the loop on all legislation matters was legendary. Lee Lundberg set the stage for one of CASCWA's basic goals as an organization to have a focus on legislation. Many of the subsequent giants of CASCWA were all mentored or influenced by the work of Lee Lundberg.

One individual is recognized as the "Lee Lundberg Award" recipient for their "Outstanding Service" to State CASCWA.  The Lee Lungberg Award is the most prestigious CASCWA award.  The 2012 recipients are as follows:
